Did you know that life is about timing? Not just any timing, but divine timing. There is a time and purpose for everything. We talk about time like it’s ours to spend freely, as if we can control it, stretch it, and pause it at will. But the truth is, time doesn’t belong to us. It’s God’s. And the sooner we embrace that, the more peace we find while we wait for the things we desire.
You’ve probably heard the saying, “If it’s meant to be, it will be.” It sounds comforting, and it is, but only if we understand the second half of that truth.
It will be, in God’s time, not ours.
What Does It Mean to Wait on God?
Waiting doesn’t mean doing nothing. Waiting is actually an action. It’s trusting, believing, and preparing your heart for what’s coming, even when you can’t see it yet. It’s knowing that God’s “not yet” is not a “no.” It’s just a reminder that something better is on the way.
Maybe you want new friends, real ones who see you, support you, and laugh with you at lunch. Or maybe your dream is to attend an Ivy League school and you’ve been studying, volunteering, and doing all the things to set yourself apart. Maybe you’re older, working a job where you feel unseen and overlooked, and you’re praying for advancement, recognition, or simply a door to open.
Whatever it is you’re waiting for, know this. Your moment is coming. And when it arrives, it will make perfect sense. You’ll understand why it didn’t happen sooner. You’ll realize that the very things you thought were delays were actually God’s protection and preparation.
Wisdom Has No Age Limit
It’s easy to roll our eyes when our parents or caregivers try to give advice. We might think, “They don’t get it,” or “Things are different now.” And sure, the world has changed, but wisdom hasn’t.
Experience is timeless. Many of the challenges we face today, our parents have already lived through in one way or another. They’ve felt heartbreak. They’ve been the new kid. They’ve faced rejection, self-doubt, disappointment, and delays. They’ve had dreams deferred and hopes restored.
My father used to say, “When it’s in God’s time, the right time, great things happen.” And he was right. I didn’t always understand what he meant when I was younger, but as I grew older, I saw it unfold over and over again in my life. What I thought I wanted immediately, God delayed for a reason. And when it finally arrived, it was better than I imagined.
Patience Is a Superpower
We live in a world of instant everything. Instant messages, instant food, instant validation. But there is no such thing as instant character. No fast-track to wisdom. No shortcut to growth.
That’s why patience is so powerful. It slows us down. It makes us more thoughtful. It teaches us to lean on faith rather than our own understanding. It also helps us build something even more important than success, integrity.
When you wait on something and trust the process, you learn to value it more deeply. That’s the gift of timing. It strengthens your faith while humbling your heart. You stop comparing your path to everyone else’s and instead focus on blooming in your own lane.
This is why Hey Doll! loves creating confidence-building activities for tweens. Learning patience, prayer, and purpose doesn’t always have to feel heavy. It can be fun, encouraging, and creative. Every moment of waiting is an opportunity to grow. And you deserve moments that fill your heart while you wait for the big things.
Preparing While You Wait
So, what do you do in the meantime?
You listen. To your parents, your mentors, your inner voice, and most importantly, God. You show up. For school, for your friends, for yourself. You work hard, not because results are immediate, but because good habits build good character.
You treat people with kindness and respect, not because they’ve earned it, but because you are that kind of person. You keep the faith. You stay grateful. You celebrate the small wins, even while waiting for the bigger ones.
You also pour into yourself. Practice self-care. Take time to rest, reflect, and renew your mind. For young girls, receiving a monthly self-care box for girls is more than just a treat. It’s a chance to slow down, to feel special, and to reconnect with yourself in the middle of everything else.
Timing and Identity
There’s a lot of pressure to become something quickly. To look a certain way, act a certain way, succeed by a certain age. But let me remind you. Who you are becoming matters more than what you are doing.
Your identity is not in your GPA, your popularity, or your accomplishments. It’s in your character, your heart, your values. That’s the foundation that will carry you far, not just to the door of opportunity, but through it.
And while you're becoming the best version of yourself, remember that it’s okay to enjoy the journey. That includes moments of joy, rest, and celebration. Something as simple as opening a curated gift box for 10 to15 year olds can be a reminder that you are growing beautifully. Every sticker, every lip gloss, every encouraging note is like a whisper from heaven saying, “I see you. Keep going. You’re doing just fine.”
When You’re Tired of Waiting
Some days, you’ll feel like you’ve been waiting too long. Like you’ve prayed and hoped and nothing is changing. I’ve been there. We all have.
But here’s the truth. Even when it feels like nothing is happening, God is still moving. Doors are aligning. Hearts are softening. Ideas are forming. Lessons are being learned.
You might not see the full picture yet, but that doesn’t mean it’s not being painted.
It’s okay to feel frustrated. But don’t let that frustration steal your faith. Don’t let impatience lead you to settle for less. Don’t let doubt become louder than the voice of truth that tells you, you are worthy, loved, and chosen.
Encouragement for the Girls Who Are Still Waiting
To the girl who hasn’t made her dream team yet, hang on, the right friendships take time.
To the girl who’s struggling to get into her dream school, keep pushing forward, the right door will open when it’s meant to.
To the girl who feels invisible, know that you are deeply seen and loved, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
To the girl who feels behind, your timing is your own, and your journey is unfolding exactly as it should.
To the girl who’s doing everything right but still feels stuck, please believe that progress is still happening, even when it’s silent.
To the girl comparing herself to others, stop looking sideways and look up, your worth was never meant to be measured by someone else's path.
To the girl who feels like she’s running out of time, take a deep breath, nothing meant for you will ever pass you by.
And to the girl who doubts whether it’s all worth it, know this, you are planting seeds that will bloom in the most beautiful way. In the quiet, in the waiting, in the growing God is working. #HeyDollstrong
