Being misunderstood often times will leave you feeling anxious, worried and thinking that one or some just don’t get it, or just don’t get you.
It happens at all ages, stages of life. People use these false perceptions to create a narrative about you, and a baseline for how they will treat you. Understand that this is universal . It’s called unconscious bias. It’s interesting how biases take on a life of their own; one mere misconception, opinion, or rumor at a time. But why? The problem is when these opinions become wildfires and take over everything in its site, because everyone has an opinion about others, how they should live, act, speak, carry themselves, dress etc. When these opinions do not match that of their own, biases kick in. What do you do, you ask? Continue to be who you are, who God made you to be. One of a kind. Wonderfully and beautifully made. Everyone is not going to be your “Laverne and Shirley", "Hansel and Gretel", "Queen and Slim", or better yet your "Ride or Die, Bonny and Clyde." Know that whether its your mother or father, sister or brother, aunt or uncle, or a close friend, you are loved by someONE. This--and relying on our creator, is where we find our greatest strength to keep going realizing we are not alone. The best thing we can do is treat others the way we'd want to be treated, showing the non-biased behavior that we expect. Stand apart, be strong and always be your authentic self.
